Discover the art of reproductive wellness

The Midwives of the Association:

People who have chosen to serve sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health. We began by providing care in the streets and public spaces where migrant women gathered. Along the way, we met local and cross-border activists committed to offering a quick response to the migration crisis that was unfolding…

Who we are:

We are the only association of midwives in Mexico that provides free health care to vulnerable people in contexts of mobility, including asylum seekers, refugees, deportees, and displaced persons, among whom are Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and severely impoverished communities.

In addition, we work to recover and promote the memory of ancestral remedies through the creation of an archive that rescues stories historically forgotten in Mexico, with the purpose of honoring the ancestral legacy and its teachings.

Services we offer

Fertility

As midwives, we are here to serve throughout the period from the beginning of the menstrual cycle to menopause, providing care, education, and support.

Topics covered in a consultation or class include:

  • The menstrual cycle

  • Information about contraceptives

  • Preparation for a healthy pregnancy

Prenatal

Our services include comprehensive and individualized prenatal care, as well as guidance on self-care and nutritional counseling. We believe that families should be active participants in their own health care, and we provide information and education so they can make informed decisions about their care.

When necessary, counseling and referrals are provided to seek specialized support from a gynecologist-obstetrician if the mother shows signs or symptoms of a pregnancy, birth, or postpartum complication.

Support During Labor

We provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout labor and birth. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where the birthing person feels accompanied and confident.

We assist with comfort measures, such as breathing techniques, movement, massage, and position changes, while respecting the natural rhythm of labor and the choices of the mother and her family.

Model of Care

The Midwifery Model of Care is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum than contemporary obstetrics. Midwives are health professionals who specialize in pregnancy and childbirth, developing trusting relationships with their clients that lead to safe pregnancies and births.

Midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, to guide labor and postpartum, to address complications, and to care for newborns. The Midwifery Model of Care is based on the understanding that pregnancy and birth are normal life events.

Research has shown that applying this model reduces the incidence of birth injuries, trauma, and cesarean sections.

The Midwifery Model of Care includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the entire reproductive cycle.

  • Providing individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, as well as continuous hands-on support during labor and birth, and postpartum care.

  • Minimizing unnecessary interventions.

  • Identifying women who require obstetric care.
